Dr. Eric M. Johnson
Eric M. Johnson, M.D. is a board eligible orthopaedic surgeon with additional subspecialty fellowship training in sports medicine. He specializes in minimally invasive techniques and treatments for shoulder, knee, elbow, and hip injuries. His goal is return athletes to the game as soon as safely possible.
Dr. Johnson attended the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, MI where he graduated with honors in chemical engineering.
Dr. Johnson received his medical degree from Drexel University, College of Medicine in Philadelphia, PA. He completed his internship at Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh, PA and went on to complete his orthopaedic residency training. He served as Chief Resident during his final year and following the Haitian earthquake in January of 2010, Dr. Johnson led a voluntary emergency surgical insertion team to Port au Prince. He provided emergency disaster relief and orthopaedic trauma care in makeshift operating rooms inside of tents.
After residency, Dr. Johnson was accepted into the world renowned Kerlan-Jobe Orthopaedic Foundation fellowship training program in Los Angeles, CA where he completed an extra year of training in sports medicine under the guidance of world experts in the subject.
Dr. Johnson currently provides orthopaedic treatment and coverage for the P.G.A. as well as the OHSAA state tournament football championships. He was the covering orthopaedic surgeon for the 2011 WGC Bridgestone Invitational held at Firestone Country Club in Akron. He has had extensive experience serving as team physician for multiple high schools, and has been assistant team physician for multiple professional teams including: Pittsburgh Pirates, Los Angeles Lakers, Los Angeles Dodgers, Los Angeles Kings, Anaheim Angels, Anaheim Ducks, and Los Angeles Sparks. Through these assignments, Dr. Johnson has gained invaluable experience treating numerous world class athletes and returning them to their sport. This also required working closely with and coordinating recovery with professional athletic trainers and physical therapists.
Dr. Johnson is active in the orthopaedic societies and has published papers in peer reviewed journals including the American Journal of Sports Medicine. He has also presented nationally as well as at the annual Sports Medicine Academy. He is an active member of the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine, the Arthroscopic Association of North America, the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, the American Orthopaedic Association, Ohio State Medical Association, and the Stark County Medical Association.
Interests outside of medicine for Dr. Johnson include golfing, college football, travel, and spending time with family.
