Dr. Mark J. Shepard
Mark J. Shepard, MD is a Board Certified Orthopaedic Surgeon with expertise in sports medicine and arthroscopic and reconstructive shoulder and knee surgery. Dr. Shepard earned his Medical Degree from Washington University in St. Louis. He completed his internship and orthopaedic residency at the Yale-New Haven Hospital. Dr. Shepard completed a fellowship in sports medicine at the Kerlan-Jobe Orthopaedic Clinic in Los Angeles.
While completing his studies, Dr. Shepard was bestowed several honors and recognitions. He was the Class President and Commencement Speaker for his medical class and ranked in the top 20th percentile of his class. He received the National Multiple Sclerosis Leadership Award, was on the Dean’s List consecutively, and a member of the Phi Beta Kappa National Theological Honor Society and the Alpha Epsilon Delta Premedical Honor Society.
Dr. Shepard is an instructor in Orthopaedic Surgery at the Northeastern Ohio Universities College of Medicine and the Walsh University Program in Physical Therapy. He has completed several orthopaedic research projects, presented locally and nationally, and his articles are published in numerous peer-reviewed journals.
Dr. Shepard is a member of the Walsh University Presidential Advisory Board, Notre Dame Club of Canton, American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine, American College of Sports Medicine, American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgery, Arthroscopy Association of North American, Stark County Medical Society, Yale Orthopaedic Association, and the Washington University Medical Center’s Alumni Association Executive Council
Dr. Shepard participates in his community as a team physician for high school sports, the ballet, and professional sports, including the Canton Crocodiles and Canton Invaders. He is a former assistant team physician for the Los Angeles Dodgers, Los Angeles Rams, Los Angeles Kings, Los Angeles Lakers, Anaheim Mighty Ducks, California Angels, USC Trojans, Loyola Marimount Lions, Yale University Athletics, New Haven Nighthawks and Senators Professional Minor League Hockey, and New Haven Coasters Professional Roller Blade Hockey. Dr. Shepard enjoys golf. He is an avid runner and has competed in marathons.
