Surgical Treatments
Hand Surgery, Including Carpal Tunnel Surgery
Medical conditions, such as arthritis; cumulative trauma disorders, such as carpal tunnel syndrome; and neurological conditions, such as stroke, traumatic brain injury, and spinal cord injury; can affect the way your hands move and function. Trauma, burns, and amputations can seriously injure the hands. Hand surgery can relieve pain and improve function. Advancements in hand surgery techniques and technology allow our hand surgeons the option of using traditional surgery methods or other options, such as endoscopic surgery.
Endoscopic carpal tunnel release is one option for treating carpal tunnel syndrome. This type of surgery is performed with an endoscope and narrow surgical instruments that are placed in small incisions. An endoscope is small device with a light and a lens that allows the surgeon to view and operate on the carpal tunnel without disturbing the nearby tissues. It may be used in conjunction with a camera or video system. Because endoscopic carpal tunnel release uses small incisions, you can expect a short recovery time and less discomfort.
