Physical Therapy at the Spectrum Therapy and Wellness Center
Physical Therapy
A Licensed Physical Therapist evaluates, treats, and instructs individuals by the use of physical measures and therapeutic exercises for the purpose of enhancing the physical and functional status in all age populations. Our physical therapists will work to try and alleviate impairments and functional limitations as well as promote optimal fitness, physical functions, and quality of life as it relates to movement and health.
All patients work with a licensed health care professional, including a Physical Therapist and Physical Therapy Assistant. Several Spectrum therapists have participated in additional training to learn a specialty program. These programs include the McKenzie Method, Aquatic Therapy, Sports Medicine, and Pre and Post Surgical Therapy.
The McKenzie Method
The McKenzie Method is a comprehensive and logical step-by-step process to evaluate the person's problem quickly. This mechanical examination can "classify" most conditions by the level of pain or limitation that results from certain movements or positions. McKenzie treatment prescribes a series of individualized exercises. The emphasis is on your active involvement, which can minimize the number of visits to the clinic.
Aquatic Therapy
Aquatic therapy uses the properties of water, along with the principals of physical therapy to provide an environment for the body to heal and exercise with reduced pain. Aquatic therapy may be used alone, or it may be combined with a land-based program. It can be used for many different conditions including: • Arthritis • Chronic Pain • Fibromyalgia • Fractures • Sprain and Strains • Total Joint Replacements • Spine Rehabilitation
Sports Medicine
Sports Medicine at the Spectrum Therapy and Wellness Center focuses on treatment plans to help promote the recovery of injured tissues, health, and fitness, and to assist in achieving a return to previous levels of sports performance. Treatment emphasizes the reduction of swelling, guidance on appropriate exercises, education on the balance between strength, flexibility, and endurance, and general well being.
Pre and Post Surgical Therapy
Whether you are about to have surgery, or shortly thereafter, your physician will prescribe physical therapy to help eliminate pain, improve strength, increase range of motion, and educate you on ways to avoid problems in the future. Participating in therapy prior to surgery may help to significantly improve outcomes after surgery, which often leads to a shortened time spent in therapy, decreased pain, and a faster recovery and return to previous activities.
