Most often, robotic surgery involves minimally invasive procedures performed through tiny incisions. Using miniaturized surgical instruments mounted on robotic arms, the surgeon can achieve maximum range of motion and precision. Another robotic arm contains a magnified, high-definition 3D camera that helps guide the surgeon during the procedure.
What is innovative and unique about robotic surgery is that the surgeon controls these instruments from a console within the operating room. This allows him to operate all robotic arms simultaneously while watching a monitor that provides a more detailed 3D view of the operating site than is visible with the naked eye. And whenever necessary, the surgeon can adjust the scale of the robot’s movements to ensure greater surgical precision.
