Total Shoulder Replacement Surgery

The shoulder is the joint with the widest range of motion in the body, making it the most vulnerable. Whether your shoulder pain stems from a degenerative disease, work injury, or sports accident, total shoulder joint replacement surgery is an option to help return your shoulder back to normal functioning when other treatment methods aren’t working.

What is total shoulder replacement surgery?

Total shoulder replacement surgery is in order when the damage to the shoulder bone, ligaments, and cartilage is too severe to repair. This often happens as a result of arthritis, which can cause cartilage to wear away and leave your bones grinding against each other, causing intense pain.

Shoulder replacement surgery, also called arthroplasty, involves the removal and replacement of damaged shoulder bone and cartilage. Once the damaged parts are removed, they are then replaced with metal and/or plastic implants to return the shoulder to normal movement and functioning.

When is total shoulder replacement necessary?

When you’re living with intense shoulder pain—whether from arthritis, injury, or trauma—that’s affecting your ability to perform normal everyday tasks, it could be time for surgery.

If you’re experiencing any of the following, please contact us to schedule a consultation:

  • Inability to perform normal everyday tasks
  • Loss of motion in the shoulder
  • Weakness of the shoulder
  • Moderate to severe pain while resting
